Gjoa Pump Packages Completed - August 2008

The two skids, each weighing just under 30 Tonnes were shipped from Calder on 11 Aug 08.

Testing had all been completed and approved by the client in July. This involved several days of electronic and functional testing of all aspects of the skids' performance.

The skids had been installed into their final location on the platform in September 08.

The skids will be re-commissioned probably in late 2009, after which the platform will be towed to its planned location. Production is scheduled to start in Q3, 2010.

Calder has received many favourable comments from the client concerning the engineering & build quality.

Calder Ltd were contracted to supply 2 cuttings re-injection pump skids to BP as part of the £1billion Valhall Redevelopment Project.

The pumps have a capacity of 95.4 cu mtr/hr at 340 Bar and are to form part of the solids handling system.

Having a 40 year design life, the 2 CRI pumps were successfully factory tested and approved by the client in August 2008 and are due to be commissioned in Sept 2009.

Despite the onerous duty the units are subject to stringent noise requirements and the required level of 80dbA was reached by the use of an acoustically insulated stainless steel noise hood.

Calder has just completed our planned factory expansion by acquiring the adjoining factory premises at Gregory's bank, Worcester. Adding a further 1300 m² of pump unit assembly and engineering offices to our existing buildings. Calder are well equipped to deal with the recent new contract awards and business growth plans for 2007 & 2008. We look forward to welcoming visitors to tour the new factory.

Calder has just been awarded a contract in excess of 1 million (£ sterling) for supply of multiple Zone 1 and Zone 2 ATEX compliant water jetting packages rated at up to 3000 bar. The award, from a major UK based specialist offshore cleaning and maintenance contractor confirms Calder's position as the leading name manufacturer of high quality offshore hazardous area compliant pump packages.
Contract award on Gjøa project from Aker Kvaerner for Glycol Pump package

Calder Ltd has recently been awarded a 2 Million (£ sterling) contract by Aker Kvaerner in Norway. The contract is for 8 Glycol (MEG) injection Hammelmann pumps driven by electric motors. They are destined for the new build semi-submersible production platform on the Statoil Gjøa field.

Ian Calder-Potts, Calder MD said that "We are delighted to be working with the Aker Kvaerner Group of companies on this prestigious project for Statoil. The contract award represents the oil & gas industry's recognition of Calder as an accomplished supplier of high pressure process pump packages incorporating Hammelmann hermetically sealed HP pump technology.

Aker Kvaerner are carrying out the detailed design of topside and hull procurement and construction and the hook-up and mating of topside and hull. The contract for Calder came from Aker Kvaerner's office in Oslo which is heading up the detailed engineering.

Cereal bars - High pressure pumps for varied industrial applications!

Market leading UK breakfast cereal producer has taken delivery of their new Calder pump unit. The unit features a Hammelmann pump rated at 320 bar this electric motor powered pump unit will be used for the process critical cleaning application of cereal die cleaning. Running on two shift production the pump will deliver the cleaning power required to remove blockages from up to 4 extrusion dies every 15 minutes.

Successful trials of the Calder FreelanceT tube cleaning system have provided a UK sugar producer a faster, safer and more consistent cleaning method for their blocked Sugar beet juice evaporators. Traditional manual waterjet flexible lance cleaning has been replaced by use of the Calder Freelance automatic cleaning system. A UK car manufacturer has extended the productivity of their existing Calder pump package used for automotive vehicle body carrier cleaning by high pressure waterjet by utilising 2 off 6 axis robots to remove by high pressure waterjet the paintshop overspray from the paintshop carriers. Originally a single robot was installed on site, however the system has been extended to allow two robots to operate simultaneously to offer higher standards of cleanliness and an increased volume of cleaned carriers per hour.

UK waste management and industrial services business Veolia UK, have recently taken delivery of the Calder Multijet 170 series pump unit rated at 1000 bar operating pressure. The new Calder unit will be based in a UK refinery complex and is utilised for pipeline, heat exchanger and vessel cleaning applications. Along with this unit delivery, a comprehensive array of waterjet accessories, including jetting guns, 3 dimensional tank cleaning heads and deployment lances have been supplied.

Calder has completed 'ontime' the supply of 7 x Zone 2 HDP750 containerised pump units for a floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) project.
The pumps are powered by hazardous area Volvo Penta diesels installed with Pyroban flame arrestor package.
They will inject seawater into the reservoir for pressure management and power fluid pumps will pump stabalised oil down hole to get pumps to artificially lift reservoir fluids.

Calder has recently completed an export contract for supply a 600 horse power articulated trailer-mounted oilfield well service and cementing pump skid. This land-based oilfield application required a bespoke engineering solution to accomodate the various pumping duties requested by our client.

Calder have been successful in securing their biggest ever single value order for 7 of the largest pumps that Hammelmann currently make. Calder will take the HDP 750 pumps and package them into Diesel powered units to be located on a Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel. Three of the pumps will be for Seawater Injection (181 Bar and 83 m3/hr) and four will be for Power Fluid pumping (330 Bar and 33m3/hr). The Seawater pumps will pumped into the reservoir for pressure management and the Crude Oil Power Fluid Pumps will pump the stabilised oil to down hole jet pumps to be used to lift reservoir fluids.

Calder delivered a Methanol pump package to a company in Aberdeen that will be used on an offshore platform. It will pump Methanol to a subsea tie-back in order to enhance the flow the production pipeline by reducing Hydrate formation. Using the Hammelman Process Pump range, the HDP 45 will run as a "jockey pump" on a near continuous basis whilst the HDP 175 will be run on well start up operations, both will deliver 690 Bar. Variable Speed Drives are used with both pumps to give a huge choice of pump speeds. This contract further builds upon the track record achieved in the Gulf of Mexico and Norway of using Hammelmann pumps for Methanol and represents the first such use in the UK offshore Oil and Gas Industry.

Calder delivers another twin pump Methanol package. The two HDP 175's are to be located on an offshore platform to pump Methanol for flow assurance purposes, i.e. to eliminate Hydrate formation in the production pipeline that would otherwise block it. The two pumps will each be capable of 608 Bar and 4.8 m3/hr. Variable Speed Drives have been incorporated into the package.

Calders commitment in offering a product range that meets the demanding requirements of pumping hazardous fluids, has seen the development of our methanol pump packages with variable speed. Our High-pressure reciprocating pump with Teflon spring-loaded packing suitable for methanol operation is driven by an Eexd electric motor and manually controlled belt variator. The system offers a constant 280 bar and a flow variance from 100 litres per hour to, 772 litres per hour. The Eexd shutdown switches provide protection for the pumping system and operators. These compact skid mounted units, comply with ATEX specifications.

BJ Process & Pipelines Services Aberdeen, take delivery of two Calder designed and manufactured 100 HP diesel driven pipeline pressure test units complying to rigsafe specifications. The unit consisted of an Hammelmann HDP 70 series vertical reciprocating pump (ATEX approved) with bronze suction chamber, close coupled to a stage 2 diesel engine and supplied in a small foot-print container, (2.1M x 2.2M x 2.34M). Panel mounted functions, discharge turbine flow meter, providing instantaneous LCD read out. Pre-set pressure with dial type gauge, automatic bypass safety air valve to return the engine to tick over when pre-set pressure is achieved, the unit offers a performance of 167 lpm @ 210 bar.

Cloth washing pump units for high-pressure cleaning of filter press plates. Splash lubricated triplex reciprocating plunger pump driven by a 50 Hz, 3 phase, 4 pole, 380/415 volt, IP 55 electric motor, direct or V belt driven, special voltages and 60 Hz frequency motors can be accommodated.
